# Checkout redemption

> Let customers apply points as a discount during Shopify checkout.

Customers redeem points at checkout through Habit's checkout UI extension. You do not need Shopify Scripts.

## Customer flow

1. The customer starts checkout while signed in.
2. If their balance meets your minimum, they can apply points.
3. Habit adds a discount for the redeemed amount, capped by your **max redemption percent**.
4. On a successful order, those points leave the ledger.

## Check that it is on

Checkout extensions install with the app. If the redemption field is missing:

1. Confirm Habit is installed and the trial or Standard plan is active.
2. Place a test order while logged in as a customer with a points balance.
3. If it still does not appear, email [support@gethabitloyalty.com](mailto:support@gethabitloyalty.com) with the shop domain.

## After a refund

Refunding an order reverses points earned on that order. See [points](/program/points#refunds-reverse-points-automatically) for how the ledger behaves if those points were already spent.
